This is a good traveler’s introduction to Venice that provides a brief overview of Venice’s history and puts the city’s art into context.

I’m an old practitioner of silver and chemical black and white photography who hasn’t been in a darkroom for years and who is just becoming aware of the possibilities of digital black and white. This book, though lacking in detail, is inspiring. It’s more about possibilities and good examples than technique, but it’s a good introduction, valuable even though it’s insufficient.
